In letter to parents, St. Peter principal outlines hopes for school’s 95th year
Aug. 15, 2018
I hope this summer has been a time of rejuvenation, filled with family fun and joy. It is hard to believe that a new school year is quickly approaching, and we are filled with anticipation for all that the new year will bring here at St. Peter School — new learning opportunities, new friends, and new ideas.
This school year marks the beginning of our 95th year! As the oldest Catholic school in Ocean County, founded in 1923, we certainly have a lot to be proud of. One of the greatest endorsements of our school is that so many alumni now enroll their children here. The traditions, small family community, Christ-centered environment and academic excellence all make us a little gem by the sea. Let’s all make this 95th year one that embodies all that makes St. Peter School a wonderful place to be and a place where so many people have felt at home for so many years.
We are thrilled to welcome our kindergarten students as well as many new students across grade levels. To all of our new families, we look forward to getting to know you and sincerely welcome you to our school community. I know you will find a warm, welcoming environment as you make your transition to our school!
As always, we have been very busy preparing for the 2018-2019 school year. We are VERY excited to roll out our new Robotics and Coding program! All students will be able to participate in rich new learning experiences with our Sphero Sprk+ Robotic friends. We can’t wait!
Our 1:1 tablet program continues with all students in grades K-5 using iPads, and all students in grades 6-8 using Microsoft Surface Pros. In addition, we will expand use of Google Classroom which is a wonderful tool that enables students to have access to assignments at home and at school. We know the importance of keeping up with technological advances and providing our students with essential 21st century skills to promote high school, college and career readiness.
Our new athletic director has been busy planning for a great year in Saints’ Sports. We offer many types of sports for PeeWee, JV, and Varsity and look forward to seeing our Saints learn new skills, play, and compete. Please watch for a list of clubs and sports information as the year begins.
If you follow us on social media, you can see that our Saints have been enjoying many fun summer adventures with families and friends. Thank you to all who contributed pictures! We are happy to see that you all take such great pride in your school by donning your spirit wear around the country and the world!
Our PTA and dedicated parents have worked all summer selling our 2018 Jeep raffle tickets, and we are grateful for all that they do and continue to do for our school. Our PTA and our parent volunteers are essential to the success of St. Peter School!
We are happy to be continuing our new lunch program, Green Apron Cafe. It was a huge success last year, and the children loved the delicious homemade food. You will be receiving the September lunch menu in the next few days. Speaking of the kitchen, we now have a brand new commercial oven and stove thanks to the help of the Knights of Columbus!
As we continue to work to build our enrollment, please keep in mind that you are our best marketing! Spreading the word and bringing your friends help keep us strong (and don’t forget the tuition credit incentive program).
Please be sure to subscribe to our school social media pages for updates on all of the exciting things that happen at the school on a daily basis. We are very proud of our students and our entire school community and look forward to all that is yet to come this school year!
Finally, we are thrilled to be having a Welcome Ice Cream Social for all new and returning families! Join us on Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the school parking lot to make ice cream sundaes, meet new families, meet the friars, interact with friends and teachers, and kick off our amazing 95th year!
As the last few weeks of summer come to a close, enjoy your family time, and we look forward to seeing you soon as we embark on a new school year together.
